Sitting between the straight and the baggy, the 13.5oz denim barrel fit offers volume with structure. The pair you reach for when you don’t want to think twice. Each pair is woven, dyed, cut, stitched, and finished entirely under one roof, giving us complete control over every detail, from tension in the weave to the shape of the silhouette.

Craft / Fabric
At TONE DEAF, denim is a craft. Every pair begins with raw fiber selected for quality, durability, and feel. It is woven, dyed, cut, stitched, and finished entirely under one roof making our denim truly unique in the space. This vertical process gives us complete control over every detail, from tension in the weave to the shape of the silhouette. It’s as artisanal as our hand block printing or beading and just because it’s manifested through machines doesn’t make it any less human, or any less complex. Denim, to me, is a poetic process.

SUSTAINABILITY
Tone Deaf Studios aims to source responsibly and manufacture sustainably:
- All the cotton we source is responsibly produced and meets at least one of four international certifications for quality and impact. In addition to Recover™ recycled cotton, we use cotton that has been certified from the Better Cotton Institute (BCI) and Cotton USA™. This provides us supply chain traceability to ensure our cotton meets social, ethical, and environmental standards that protect and promote the livelihood of cotton farming communities.
- A typical pair of jeans takes 1500 gallons of water to produce. Ours take less than 10. Our manufacturer treats and recycles 98% of the water we use in their in-house treatment plant.
- After it’s used in the manufacturing process, water is funneled into the in-house treatment plant, where a bacteria eats the indigo dye so the water is safe to return to municipal drains.
- Our denim is made using Dystar Liquid Indigo, a pre-reduced dye that needs less water and minimizes harmful byproducts. It’s made of just three ingredients: indigo, soda, and water.
- Each jean is tracked throughout the manufacturing process using Jeanologia’s EIM software. We monitor water, energy, and other resources to make sure each piece falls within our standards for sustainability and efficiency.
