Tone Deaf: The Documentary is the most important work I have made for the brand. Filmed over three days, it moves through our block-printing workshop, beading workshop, and vertically integrated denim factory.
The film examines the ruptures left by my journey between Pakistan and New York, and the questions that have followed it: why I started Tone Deaf, why I continued, and what I was trying to reconcile through the work. Many of the contradictions in my life had resisted explanation until I began making the film.
I found some of those answers in the process. More than a record of how Tone Deaf is made, the documentary became a way to understand why it exists.
